The Perfect Solution for the Mission Critical Website
As Data Storage and Backup become more and more complex and expensive, companies of all sizes are forced to find more cost-effective ways of managing their Mission Critical Data. In the modern Internet arena this means website data, database data, and just about anything else you can think of storing on your website. Because of the high cost of Backup system and the people and software that are needed to run them, most companies simply rely on the ISP to provide for this. It's just lucky that many ISP's include one form or another of Backup as part of their normal business.
The downside to this is that most ISP's simply transfer your data to tape drives at scheduled intervals. This means that your data could be lost between scheduled backups, or worse yet if the person who is supposed to rotate the tapes does not and you get no history of Backups at all!
This is where Prime Internet leads the pack! We run a very unique ' Real-Time ' Backup system. This means that within seconds of your Data being placed on our servers it's already being stored on our Backup System.
Here's how it works:
Your data is recorded directly from the RAID storage as its stored. These storage areas consist of 1 daily slots, 1 weekly slots, and 1 monthly slots. When you first upload your data to our servers the initial hourly slot is being recorded in Real-Time. In 4 hours the 1st ( initial ) hourly slot is moved to the 2nd slot and the 1st slot is open again to copy Real-Time data. This process continues as a trickle down effect. The initial slots move down until they hit the 4th slot, then they move into the 1st daily slot, then into the weekly slot, then the monthly slot and so on.
WOW ! , this is a lot of work !

The entire Storage Network is built on the ' High Availability ' standard. This means that every care was taken to ensure that these devices do not suffer an outage from single points of failure. Built-in RAID protects against data loss from disk failure for reduced downtime, giving users continuous access to data. Clustered failover and redundant components increase reliability, while hot spares deliver maximum data availability. Disk scrubbing ensures data integrity and battery-backed NVRAM provides additional data protection.
How does this help me in a Data Recovery situation ?
This is going to depend on the type of failure that happens.
In the event of a Hacker or Intentional data destruction in the primary storage areas, recovery is very simple. We simply send commands to the Backup System to restore data directly across the RAID system. This means that most recoveries take only minutes.
In the event of a mistake made by the webmaster that is not caught for several days we can simply go into one of the daily or weekly slots and send the data directly across the RAID system. This process takes only minutes.
In the event of a failed hard drive on a server the Storage Network is completely unaffected and all the data is 100% current without any need for actual recovery. The webserver will need a new hard drive and load of the O/S. This process will take about 20 minutes and then once tied back into our Storage Network it's business as usual without most anyone knowing.
