:: CO-LOCATION OVERVIEW ::
(Click Here To See our Managed Co-Lo Center - LIVE!)
Colocation is where we connect a server that you own to our network within one of our managed Data Centers. If you do not already have one, we sell you one if ownership is desired. This is the main difference in dedicated servers and colocated servers. In a dedicated environment, the server itself is owned by us, whereas in a colocated environment, you own the server.
There are two costs associated with colocated servers - Rack Fees and Bandwidth Fees.
- Rack Fees - These are the costs associated with actually having your server located in our datacenter. We offer as little as 1U rack slots all the way up to full dedicated 44U racks. Most mordern servers come in either 1U or 2U configurations while towers come in 8U heights usually. Servers with a large number of harddrives can be as big as 4U or 6U.
- Bandwidth Fees - We offer bandwidth in two different ways and the costs are slightly different depending on which manner we deliver it to you.
a) 95% (ninty fifth percentile) is the most common method of selling Co-Location bandwidth. This is where we connect your server(s) to our network on a 1Gig per second connectin (fiber) to our backbone and monitor the sustained usage. Your price per Mbps (megabit per second) will be based on your Commited Data Rate (CDR). You pay a base rate for a set amount of usage, then you are allowed to really use however much you need and we charge you for the overage. We take a measurement every 5 minutes and read the 'speed' of the output. At the end of the say we re-sort all 288 samples for the last 24 hours from highest to lowest. We then chop off the top 5% (14.4) of the samples and what's left is your 95% usage for the day. We follow this pattern for the whole month and at the end we have your total 95%. The method allows for short duration spikes in usage throughout the day without being charged for more bandwidth than you need. The whole time stats on your 95% usage are available online 24x7 and are updated in real-time.
b)Per Gig of Transfer is the second most common way to sell bandwidth. In this model we set a Committed Data Rate (CDR) in Gigabytes of data transfer. You per Gig price is based on how much CDR you are willing to commit to. The more you commit to the lower your price will be. We then monitor the actual ports your server(s) are connected to and record all the data transfer counters every 5 minutes. This goes on all month until we get a grand total of all the data you transferred from your server(s). If you go over your CDR you are charged for the overage on a per Gig basis. For businesses that have very large swings in traffic throughout the day this is less expensive. The whole time stats on your data transfer usage are available online 24x7 and are updated in real-time.
Since you are entrusting your server inour hands, there are things to consider:
- Facility - We operate out of 14 World Class Data Centers across the Untied States
- Physical Infrastructure - Our primary carrier is Level3 Communications the most reliable Tier-1 carrier in the United States. With the most peering with AOL out of any other carrier this is our #1 choice for those who are serious about business. We also have connections with Sprint, UUNet, and Cogent for backup and BGP purposes.
- Security / Access - All of our facilities are 100% secure. There are physical barriers, biometric checkpoints, security cameras, and onsite staffing to prevent unauthorized access not just to the facility but also to each and every rack we operate.
- Support Options - We operate a complete 24x7 support desk. You can call us on the phone, engage us on LiveHelp Chat directly from our website, or open an online support ticket for all your technical support needs.
- Uptime Guarantees - We offer a 99.99% uptime guarantee on all our managed equipment. This usually allows us about 30 minutes of yearly downtime for system issues.
- Contract - We offer complete Service Level Agreements (SLA's) for all our Co-Location services. This menas that you have added protection and resources for all your services here.
Unsurpassed Network Performance, Reliability, and Scalability
High capacity, scalable peering interconnections, and ongoing upgradeability help to ensure that the nNetwork maintains uncongested connectivity to the world's largest Internet networks. We back this up with Service Level statements committing to 99.99% network availability, an average latency of 40 milliseconds or less in all regions (25ms in North America, 15ms in Europe), and less than .05% packet loss.
